Saint Cecilia's, Wandsworth

Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth Church of England School.

JR PhotoSaint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth is a co-educational voluntary-aided comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-18 years in the Diocese of Southwark and the London Borough of Wandsworth. It opened in September 2003 with 150 pupils in Year 7 and has increased year on year as the school has grown, reaching the current level of 920 pupils and students in Years 7 – 13.

The school has been purpose-built for the twenty-first century and comprises state-of-the-art facilities for all curriculum areas, including specialist accommodation for the teaching of music, the subject in which the school specialises.  In fact, in September 2009, the Department for Children, Schools and Families officially designated the school a Specialist Music College, specialising in the teaching and learning of Music and Mathematics. Whilst the Governing Body therefore reserves 10% of places in each year group for pupils showing a particular aptitude for music, it is important to note that governors are committed to developing the school as a centre of excellence for teaching and learning across all curriculum subjects, with values underpinned by Christian principles.

The school is a well-ordered community, providing a secure, structured environment for learning. As well as the highest standards of teaching and learning, we offer a wide range of curriculum enrichment and extra-curricular activities, and pupils are encouraged to remain on the school premises after the school day has ended in order to take advantage of these opportunities.

In January 2009, the school federated with Blackheath Bluecoat Church of England School in the London Borough of Greenwich. As the lead school in the Federation, Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth provides professional leadership through my own appointment as Executive Headteacher of both schools, and the appointment of two Associate Headteachers to manage the day-to-day running of each institution. The Federation also allows for additional staff support to be given by Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth to Blackheath Bluecoat Church of England School in order to help raise academic standards.  Blackheath Bluecoat Church of England School website can be viewed at www.bbcs.greenwich.sch.uk

Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth is a school of which parents, staff, pupils and the local community are immensely proud. If you wish to contact us to discuss any aspect of our work, please telephone (020) 8780 1244 or e-mail info@saintcecilias.wandsworth.sch.uk
