Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth applied for specialist status in December 2008 and the DCSF officially granted designation from September 2009. The school receives additional funding of approximately £350,000 over three years to help us achieve our planned aims and objectives. The school specialises in the teaching and learning of Music and Mathematics.
At the end of the three year cycle, we have to re-apply to the DCSF for renewal of our status, or within six weeks of an OfSTED inspection.

Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth Specialist Music College aims to:
- Develop excellent teaching and learning in Music and Mathematics and to share this expertise with other curriculum areas, thus raising the attainment of all pupils.
- Employ talented and suitably qualified specialist teachers.
- Provide state-of-the-art accommodation and specialist resources for Music and Mathematics.
- Work with professional artists, musicians and mathematicians to give our pupils and students experience of the professional music and mathematics worlds.
- Work with local primary schools to support and lead on a range of projects using our resources, specialist staff and facilities.
- Offer a wider range of Music and Mathematics courses (e.g. BTEC Music Technology/NCFE Music Technology/ Further Maths ) through our KS3 and KS4 curriculum offer, but also through Wandsworth LA Diploma Lines (e.g. Creative and Media Diploma Level 2).
- Provide a range of Music and Mathematics workshops and classes to members of the local community.
- Develop and deliver cross-curricular work with other curriculum areas in the school, utilising teaching and learning styles developed in the Music and Mathematics Departments.
Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth highly values its developing links with our local primary schools and the local community. Developing Music and Mathematics provision with and for our local community and primary schools is an important priority for us as a Music College. As well as providing opportunities for primary and secondary staff development, we aim to offer a range of after school activities for primary school pupils and organise workshops and master classes at Saint Cecilia’s, Wandsworth, enabling pupils to experience a secondary school environment with excellent facilities. We also facilitate projects with external Arts and Mathematics organisations in a range of Art and Science forms, supporting a smoother transition from primary to secondary school.
Our new Music College magazine will be launched in January 2010 with Arts, Music and Mathematics news and a regular quiz. The magazine will be issued to all our pupils and parents, local community groups and our sponsors.
